Open Darkroom

  • Photosynthesis Darkroom, Climate Action Campus 180 Avonside Drive Christchurch, Canterbury, 8061 New Zealand (map)

The new Photosynthesis community darkroom is open for you to bring a friend, an exposed roll of black and white 35mm film, or just your curiosity.

This space is for everyone: if you have no experience or heaps; if your first experience of the magic of analogue processes is part of the current resurgence of film, or if you want to return to hands-on photo practices you did last century.

Our volunteers will be running hands-on demonstrations of the silver gelatin printing process with our enlargers, and running a sausage sizzle from 1pm for you to grab a hotdog and meet some of the people who want to be part of our emerging vibrant darkroom community.

This is part of our Boosted Campaign to offer a wide variety of equipment. This event is a chance to see what we currently have, see the potential to extend from 35mm to medium and large format film development and printing; to scan your own film, and think about how you could use a large format film camera in the Photosynthesis studio. Invision how you control every step of your artistic processes.
