Darkroom Induction

  • Photosynthesis Darkroom 13/400 Saint Asaph Street Christchurch, Canterbury, 8011 New Zealand (map)

The Photosynthesis darkroom enables people in Ōtautahi to affordably create analog photographic art. To keep this asset accessible for all requires every member of the darkroom community to act safely and understand how the space and equipment should be used. It is for this reason that Photosynthesis requires the completion of our induction process before the darkroom can be booked.

In this 30-minute induction session, you will learn about the darkroom space, expectations of users, where to access resources and support from Photosynthesis, and fundamental health and safety procedures.

This induction requires a basic understanding of darkroom processes that you will demonstrate to a Photosynthesis volunteer. If you would like to learn, see our regular Darkroom 101 film dev and scan and Darkroom 101 printmaking workshops.

After completing the in-person darkroom induction, you must complete the competency questionnaire. Please let us know if you need assistance completing the questionnaire and we will be happy to provide support. This will be confirmed to you as completed by a Photosynthesis volunteer and you will then be able to make darkroom bookings.
